Supported Formats
Audio you can upload: MP3, M4A (including iPhone Voice Memos), WAV, FLAC, OPUS, WEBM, MPEG and other common formats. Video files such as MP4 and MOV work too - the audio track is transcribed (see Video to Text).
Text you get back: plain text (TXT), Word (DOCX), PDF, Markdown, JSON, and subtitle files (SRT, VTT).
Limitations
- Guest limits. Without an account there is a daily limit and a maximum file size and length. A free account removes the daily limit and allows larger and longer files - see Pricing for the exact numbers.
- Save your transcript. We don't keep a copy (see below), so copy or download it before you leave the page.
Privacy: What Happens to Your File
Your audio file is deleted immediately after it has been transcribed. We don't store your files or your transcripts - the text is sent back only to your browser. The file's name may appear in our hosting provider's technical logs, which are deleted automatically after about a day. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
Audio to Text: Common Questions
Can I transcribe a voice memo from my phone?
Yes. iPhone Voice Memos are saved as M4A files, which you can upload directly. On Android, most recorder apps save MP3 or M4A, which also work.
Can I get timestamps?
Yes - download the result as SRT or VTT. Both are subtitle formats where every line of text comes with its start and end time.
Can I transcribe a recording that isn't in English?
Yes. Over 100 languages are supported, including German, Spanish, French, Russian, Turkish, Chinese and Arabic. The transcript is in the language that was spoken - it is not translated.
My file is too large. What can I do?
Create a free account for a higher file size limit. You can also make the file smaller by converting it to MP3 or M4A, which are much smaller than WAV, or split a very long recording into parts.
